There are sixteen Romanesque Benedictine Abbeys in the province of Macerata and they are an important part of our historical, artistic and architectural heritage. Fondazione Carima decided to devote a special section to these sacred buildings in the TUMA tourism promotion web portal which proposes a fascinating journey of discovery through the Province of Macerata. These abbeys are outstanding examples of the Romanesque style and still today they display all their past splendour to the eyes of visitors, often within landscapes of extraordinary beauty. Unfortunately, not all the abbeys are open to the public due to of their poor state of conservation making them inaccessible, but they nonetheless deserve to be mentioned for their past importance and for what they represent historically. These abbeys are Santa Maria De Rotis located in Braccano di Matelica and three abbeys in the area of San Severino, namely Sant’Eustachio in Domora located in Grotte di Sant’Eustachio, San Mariano in Valle Fabiana situated in Colleluce and Santa Maria in Valfucina in Elcito.
